Verified crawler identity

A user agent is a string anyone can send. Free logging tells you something claimed to be GPTBot; Pro confirms it by reverse DNS or the vendor’s published IP ranges. Without that, your AI numbers can be inflated by anything that wants to look like a crawler.

A crawler reading a page proves it is reachable. A person arriving from a ChatGPT or Perplexity answer proves it was cited. That second number is the one worth optimizing against, and most analytics bury it under generic referral traffic.
